It's been 8 years and we have been waiting for this experience eagerly. Though there has been a trailer of sorts most years, this time it repeated in full glory and surprisingly in the same fashion. It's unbelievable that nothing has changed and kudos to the state government (or any political party for that matter), politicians, panchayat members, and officials to have ensured this. I mean nothing as in NOTHING has changed. It takes great effort to ensure and maintain such standards and I can't thank them enough.
Perumbakkam always had its advantages over any other place in and around Chennai. We have been blessed with so much abundance of water every time during the rains and yet they ensured we are sent private tanker lorries every day for drinking water. They gave us a great adventure road trail 'free for life' by ensuring roads are curated to that effect with potholes everywhere. Why travel far and pay for adventure rides? The roads are also carefully made with very few layers of poor-quality materials so that they erode quickly and they also ensure it's not high enough so that boats can sail through during boating season. Since blue lights are bad for the eyes, they ensure all street lights are not working most of the time, only to safeguard our eyes. The garbage disposal process in Perumbakkam is probably the world’s first natural garbage disposal process. It's all collected and maintained safely for several months in open residential areas and they wait for nature to clear it (through floods every year). Mother Nature's cleanup crew is right at our doorstep and free of cost. During the recent cyclone, Mother Nature also leveled the roads for us. But very soon, it will be ready for adventure.
When the govt told us they were going to bring boating facilities at the lakes nearby.. we doubted them. But then they went a step ahead and bought boating facilities right at our doorsteps. In some places to the first floor. Why go to Ooty or Kodaikanal... Or even a Muthukadu.. Just step out of your apartment and tada! a boat is right there. Just that it's seasonal like other places. Am sure they are working hard to make it available all throughout. Each time they bring new projects like macro drains or bridges to increase the flow of excess water, we are so worried that all these adventure facilities will go away. But God willing, none of these projects start..if started, it does not get completed.
Inspite of providing these facilities, to make our experience better they also bring food to your doorstep during needy times. Imagine in a rainy season...just sitting at home, doing nothing... enjoying the scenic water bodies around with artifacts like cars...bikes, broken trees, and other kind of stuff floating around.....and at the same time getting hot food served..?? Super no? Where else can you experience this comfort...and the luxury?
I seriously think the property tax and road tax we pay are nothing for the kind of lavish service provided. Am also very selfish and greedy that such facilities should never be given to the people staying in real Chennai. Yes, we are no more Chennai, its Tambaram Corporation. Am now waiting to donate the govt relief funds which will be notified shortly for each cyclone-affected house.. donate as in donate back to the panchayat/govt. Last time (2015) also they diligently came to collect forms from all of us for relief amount credit but they painstakingly donated it to themselves I guess. That's all we can do to support these poor panchayats and poor politicians who support us so much.
Perumbakkam is not just a place; it's a lifestyle, a unique experience tailor-made for those who appreciate the finer things in non-progress. This entire experience is truly an exclusive gift for Perumbakkam residents and we cherish it.
Thank you once again!
Sincerely, Perumbakkam resident.
